The shooting occurred at around 10 p.m. as the victim was believed to be dining at the outlet, Channel News Asia reported.
Police were alerted to the incident shortly afterward.
The victim was identified as a man in his late 30s.
Videos circulating online show the shooter running up to the man and firing at him, causing the victim to collapse to the ground, Mothership reported.
Another video shows the man slumped on the pavement outside the McDonald’s outlet.
He was later pronounced dead.
Shootings remain relatively rare in Malaysia due to strict firearms laws, but several high-profile cases in recent months have raised public concern.
A fatal shooting happened at a shopping mall in Selangor earlier last year.
Police have repeatedly said such cases are isolated and targeted, but the incidents have nonetheless sparked debate over public safety and organized crime.
Malaysia kicked off its Visit Malaysia 2026 tourism campaign with a series of events in an effort to attract 47 million tourists this year.
The number of tourists to Malaysia was estimated to exceed 40 million last year, according to HSBC Global Research.
