While patrolling the international terminal T2 lobby, Nguyen Thanh Binh from the car park security team, and Nguyen Thanh Tin from the mobile security team, spotted a black backpack late on Thursday.

After conducting a security check for explosives, they handed the bag over to the airport’s mobile security unit.

Upon inspection, the backpack was found to contain $15,075 in cash along with the passenger's passport.

The passenger, a Vietnamese citizen who had returned to Vietnam from South Korea, explained that when he left the airport with a group, he assumed someone else had taken his backpack onto their vehicle.

It was not until they neared downtown Hanoi that he realized his luggage had been left behind, prompting him to rush back to the airport to retrieve it.

"The security team discovered it just in time. Without their help, it would have been difficult to recover my belongings," he said.

He said the money was his savings from working in South Korea.

Noi Bai International Airport security teams have returned lost items to over 40 passengers this year.
