A man who raped his employer's daughter on multiple occasions has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a Hanoi court.

Following a trial on Thursday, Bui Van Long, 23, got eight years for "raping a person under 16" and one year for "having sex with a person aged between 13 and 16."

Prosecutors said Long started working at a roasted duck restaurant in Dong Da District in 2019, and stayed with the owner’s family.

He took advantage of adults’ absence at home on five occasions between April 2020 and May 2022 to rape the girl.

He would make her watch pornography and also recorded his rapes.

On the first four occasions the girl was only 11 years old when he raped her, and she had turned 13 when he committed his act for a final time.

The court showed leniency to Long after the girl’s family asked it to do so though without providing an explanation.

It also ordered him to pay the girl’s family VND60 million ($2,550) in compensation.
