Police in central Vietnam have arrested a man for allegedly breaking both the arms of a delivery man who had asked him to pay a shipping fee of US$1.25.

Truong Dinh Nhat, 44, of Quang Ngai Province's Tu Nghia District, was arrested Monday for "intentionally inflicting injuries," a crime punishable by up to three years in jail.

On the afternoon of Feb. 17, Lam Anh Dat, 24, delivered two rhododendron plants to Nhat’s house.

Nhat refused to take delivery of the plants saying they were not what he had ordered.

Dat called the seller on his phone and told Nhat to talk directly with the person, who agreed to take the plants back.

But when Dat asked for the shipping fee of VND30,000 (US$1.25) to take the plants back to seller, Nhat refused to pay.

The argument escalated into physical violence with Nhat kicking and punching at Dat, and hitting him on the head with the plants.

Nhat and his wife then locked the gate of their house and grabbed various things, including a steel chair, to hit Dat with.

Dat screamed for help, managed to escape, and went to the police.

He was then taken to a hospital where it was found that both his arms were broken.

Police are investigating Nhat's wife to press charges against her too.
