A 32-year-old man in the southern Tra Vinh Province has been arrested for allegedly tearing national flags at two government offices on Sunday.

Le Ba Chac of An Truong Commune, Cang Long District, faces charges of "insulting the national flag."

Officials said he drove a motorbike to the commune police station, used a shovel to break a glass case to get at the national flag inside, and tear it up.

Then he went into the commune People's Committee office next door and tear the national and Communist Party flags that were hung in the yard.

When chased by the police, he climbed up the roof of a house and yelled and threw tiles at them.

The police are investigating the bizarre event.
