A local man has been arrested after robbing two foreign tourists in Hoi An in central Vietnam, police said Saturday.

Tran Van Sinh, 25, rode his motorbike around Hoi An on Wednesday evening looking for tourists to rob. He went to Hai Ba Trung Street and saw a foreign tourist riding a bicycle with her boyfriend and had left her bag in the front basket. Sinh then approached from behind, snatched the bag and quickly rode away.

The next evening, Sinh carried out a similar robbery, snatching a handbag from another foreign tourist, taking the valuables and throwing the rest in the river.

From the victims’ report, the police extracted images from security surveillance and street cameras. On Friday evening, Sinh was arrested as he was driving on the street and later admitted his action.

Authorities have sent divers to recover the items Sinh threw away.
