A lift cable at the Dong Yen B Kindergarten construction site in Hanoi's Quoc Oai District broke, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to seven others.

The accident occurred at 7:10 p.m. on June 18 when the lift, used to deliver materials to the third floor of the building, fell to the ground, according to the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs.

The project was being carried out by a consortium of Tuan Minh Construction and Development Co. Ltd., Ha Hung Co. Ltd., and Hanoi Safe Construction JSC.

The Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs has proposed support for the victims, offering VND10 million ($393) for each deceased person, VND5 million for each severely injured person, and VND3 million for each person with minor injuries.

The project to expand and upgrade Dong Yen B Kindergarten, managed by the Quoc Oai District Project Management Department, began construction in 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025. The construction site is located on a high hill, isolated from surrounding residential areas. The three-story classroom block is nearly finished, and the old kindergarten has been closed.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
