Justice minister becomes Vietnam's new deputy PM

Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long has become the new deputy prime minister for the 2021-2026 term, following the National Assembly approval on Thursday.

The results on the request by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ended up with 468 out of 489 NA delegates voting to agree with the decision.

Long, 61, from the central province of Thanh Hoa, has a PhD in Law.

He began his political career as a specialist with the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Justice. From March 2014 to October 2015, he was the vice secretary of the Ha Tinh Party Committee.

Since April 2016, he has been the minister of justice.

The government for the 2021-2026 term currently has four deputy prime ministers: Le Minh Khai, Tran Luu Quang, Tran Hong Ha and Le Thanh Long. Vietnam's deputy PMs work as assistants to the PM, taking on his assignments.
