Fukushimaken Keisatsugakko, a police academy in Fukushima Prefecture, launched a course for 60 graduating police trainees including several male officers at the end of January, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
The academy collaborated with experts from the renowned Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido. These experts not only provided general makeup guidance but also offered personalized advice tailored to the trainees.
Throughout the course, instructors taught basic makeup techniques, including moisturizing the skin, applying primer, and using eyebrow pencils. The experts also taught eyebrow trimming and hairstyling.
"We want to remind students that as both members of society and future police officers, maintaining a proper appearance is crucial," Takeshi Sugiura, the vice-principal of the police academy, said in an interview with Nippon TV.
Many male trainees, unfamiliar with makeup, found themselves challenged by the array of cosmetics. Some were seen applying primer in a somewhat chaotic manner, while others appeared confused, seemingly searching for help from their fellow trainees.
Traditionally, Japanese police academies have focused mainly on legal education and rigorous physical preparation.
