Indonesian girl, 5, found dead after crocodile attack

The girl, identified as Chaca, was attacked as she was bathing on Saturday, said I Made Oka Astawa, head of the Pangkalpinang Search and Rescue Agency, Antara News reported.

She was joining her parents for a bath when the animal seized her from the bank and dragged her underwater, the Irish Sun reported.

Rescuers recovered the child’s body around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday (local time). Officials later handed over the remains to her family.

Crocodile attacks have occurred periodically across Indonesia. In one incident in April 2020, a six-year-old boy lost his life to a crocodile near a beach in Maluku.
