How sinus lift, bone grafting surgery are used for dental implant placement

Doctor Nguyen Quang Tien, the Director of Saigon Dental Hospital, said dental implant placement is popular but not everyone knows clearly about it. Many do not get dental implants soon after they lost teeth, causing difficulties in the procedure. Therefore, doctors need to perform sinus lift and bone grafting surgery.

Tien explained that dental implant placement is a treatment solution connecting crowns with denture roots made from a material that is biocompatibility with the jawbone by abutments. To get the best result, doctors will remove the old tooth or root of the missing tooth before placing dental implants. They also need to perform bone volume expansion if the jawbone does not have enough bone volume.

Bone grafting has two functions: reshaping the jawbone and bone stimulation. It plays a role of a frame for the bone to grow in the right direction and then grafted bone to be disappeared gradually.

Sinus lift and bone grafting surgery help expand the jawbone horizontally, making it easy for dental implants. The surgery also prevents implant rejection or jawbone perforation. When implants connect strongly with the jawbone, the ability to chew can be restored.

Tien said that sinus lift and bone grafting surgery is a difficult technique that should be performed by experienced doctors.

The time for performing the surgery is longer than the dental implant surgery.

As part of the jawbone will be exposed during the surgery, sterilization must be done carefully to avoid surgical site infections, Tien said.
