The woman, 61, was standing on the railway tracks when she was hit by an incoming train, Xinhua reported. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman had come to Otaru with her husband for a holiday, the Dimsum Daily reported. The incident resulted in the suspension of 19 train services, affecting around 8,200 passengers.
The Chinese consulate in Sapporo is looking into the case, the Bangkok Post reported.
