A Hai Phong court has ordered a "maritime lien" on Hong Kong-flagged Tiger Maanshan after it collided with a gantry crane in a city port on August 10.

Nguyen Anh Vu, director of the Hai Phong Port Authority, said the ship owner was sued by the Dinh Vu Port Development and Investment JSC after the two sides could not agree on compensation after the accident.

The 192-meter Tiger Maanshan carried containers from the Philippines to Dinh Vu Port in the northern city when its bow and a part of its cabin collided with the gantry crane pier at the port.

Vu said the preliminary cause has been determined as loss of control while on its way to the dock.

There were no casualties and navigation has not been affected, but the crane is damaged and inoperable.

Maritime lien is a claim upon a maritime property for services provided or losses caused.
