Central Vietnam would experience heavy rains up to 400 millimeters from Wednesday to Saturday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

A low-pressure area could be formed and move towards Vietnam and in combination with cold air, bring heavy rains to central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, the center stated.

From Thursday to Saturday, Nghe An is expected to see rain levels at 50-150 mm, while Ha Tinh and Quang Binh would see rain levels between 150-400 millimeters.

Quang Tri would experience rain starting Friday at 200-400 mm. Its neighbor Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam, all home to popular tourist towns, would see rain levels between 200-400 mm.

Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and the Central Highlands would see rain from Wednesday to Saturday at 100-200 mm. Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan would see rain levels between 50-100 mm.

Rainfall of 180 mm a day is considered heavy.

The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control warned that lightning, hail, heavy winds, flooding and erosion may occur with the rain. Authorities have also told localities to check residential areas near rivers and streams for evacuation.
