A man in HCMC was injured after trying to run away from a falling outdoor lighting at a major circle on Saturday.

At around 3 p.m., a group of workers from the HCMC Public Lighting Company was maintaining a steel lamppost with flower-shaped lighting at the Hang Xanh circle in Binh Thanh District when the lighting fell from a height of 15 m.

The group tried to run away, but one person was hurt in the process. At the time of the incident, there were no vehicles around.

Hoa, a nearby beverage vendor, said she heard a loud noise, possibly the sounds of wires breaking.

"Around four workers underneath the lighting tried to run away, and one fell to the ground and was injured," she said.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, received first-aid and was taken to hospital.

Hang Xanh circle is the meeting point of Dien Bien Phu and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh's two of the largest streets in HCMC as they connect the city's eastern gateway with the downtown area. There are four similar lampposts at four corners of the circle.
