Two passengers have been caught at HCMC's Tan Son Nhat airport trying to take what looks like US$100 dollar notes painted black on a flight to Thailand.

Ho Chi Minh City Customs on Friday said they found the notes, totaling "over one million U.S. dollars," inside two suitcases belonging to two Vietnamese, aged 50 and 46. They were going to fly to Thailand’s Bangkok on the VJ803 flight.

"These are real dollars being painted black. However, in order to verify this, we would need to wait for authorities," a source said.

An investigation is ongoing.
