HCMC Covid-19 cases scale daily high

HCMC's Friday tally of 149 new Covid-19 cases was its highest in a day since the first outbreak hit the country early 2020.

Of the new patients, 11 are associated with the cluster that emerged from the Revival Ekklesia Mission, a Christian congregation based in Go Vap District, 24 are related to a food company at an industrial park, 101 are related to the previously confirmed cases and 13 are being contact traced to find the sources of infection.

On Friday evening only, health authorities confirmed 59 new local Covid-19 cases in Vietnam, raising the national tally in the fourth wave starting April 27 to 9,173.

Of the new cases, 30 were recorded in HCMC, 19 in Bac Giang, six in Bac Ninh, three in Ha Tinh and one in Hoa Binh.

All the cases in the northern provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and Hoa Binh are associated with current outbreaks in the industrial parks there. The cases in HCMC and Ha Tinh are related to the previously confirmed Covid-19 patients.

Vietnam recorded 259 community transmissions in total Friday. Eighty discharges the same day raised the total number of recoveries to 4,733.

Of the 9,173 domestic cases recorded in 41 localities in the latest Covid-19 wave, Bac Giang, neighboring Bac Ninh and HCMC account for 5,083, 1,470 and 1,346, respectively.
