Vietnam recorded 115 new local Covid-19 cases Saturday night, including 58 in HCMC, pushing the southern metropolis's coronavirus tally in the new wave to 3,018.

The other 11 cases were recorded in Nghe An, 10 in Phu Yen, eight in Dong Thap and seven in Da Nang City. Quang Ngai Province has recorded six cases while epicenter Bac Giang and industrial hub Binh Duong reported five each. Binh Thuan and Hanoi had two cases each while Bac Ninh reported one.

Among the new cases in HCMC, 44 had made contact with confirmed coronavirus patients, 10 are associated with a cluster at Trung Son Food Company in Binh Tan District, two are linked to a cluster at Binh Dien wholesale market in District 8, one case is linked with the cluster at Son Ky Market in Tan Phu District while the remaining case is being contact traced.

In the north central Nghe An Province, nine patients had close contact with confirmed coronavirus patients and had been already isolated, while the remaining two cases are associated with the outbreak in Vinh Town's wholesale market.

In the south central province of Phu Yen, seven patients had been quaratined following contact tracing while the remaining three are being contact traced. The province will enter a social distancing campaign from Sunday under the government's Directive 15, which requires suspension to social events and bans gatherings of 20 people or more in one place and of 10 people or more outside workplaces, schools and hospitals.

All cases in Dong Thap in the south, Da Nang, Quang Ngai and Binh Thuan in central region and northern provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh had been already quaratined.

In Binh Duong Province, four had made contact with coronavirus patients and the other is linked with the cluster at TICO Company in Thuan An Town.

In Hanoi, one patient was in close contact with a confirmed coronavirus patient and the remaining case is being contact traced.

On Saturday, Vietnam recorded a total of 164 domestic infections and declared 188 Covid-19 patients free of coronavirus, raising the country's total recoveries to 6,137.

Since the new wave broke out seven weeks ago, Vietnam has recorded 11,945 infections in 48 of its 63 cities and provinces. Bac Giang led with 5,565 cases, followed by HCMC and Bac Ninh with 1,567.
