Vietnam recorded 356 local Covid-19 cases Sunday evening, with 169 new cases recorded in HCMC, pushing the southern metropolis's tally in the new wave to 6,034.

Of the new cases, 76 were recorded in Binh Duong, 52 in Long An, 29 in Tien Giang, eight in Quang Ngai, five each in Phu Yen and An Giang, four in Dong Thap, three in Nghe An and one each in Thua Thien-Hue, Ha Tinh, Ben Tre, Bac Giang and Da Nang.

162 cases in HCMC are contained within quarantine zones and locked down areas. Seven others are being contact traced.

58 cases in Binh Duong are linked to a company in Thu Dau Mot Town, 15 are close contact cases and three are being contact traced.

40 cases in Long An were detected in locked down areas, while 12 others returned from HCMC.

13 cases in Tien Giang are linked to the My Tho fishing port in the eponymous city, 13 are linked to a bank also in My Tho Town, one linked to the Binh Dien market in HCMC, and two are being contact traced.

Seven cases in Quang Ngai were detected within quarantine zones and locked down areas, and one returned from Da Nang.

Four cases in Phu Yen are close contact cases and one is linked to the Mang Mang market in Tuy Hoa Town.

All the cases in An Giang, Thua Thien-Hue, Ha Tinh, Ben Tre and Da Nang are close contact cases.

Two cases in Dong Thap are close contact cases, while two others returned from Binh Duong.

Two cases in Nghe An are close contact cases, while one returned from HCMC.

The case in Bac Giang, a 31-year-old man, is being contact traced.

Additionally, the Bac Ninh Center for Disease Control (CDC) added three more local cases to its tally, all contained within quarantine zones.

Vietnam has recorded 16,455 cases in 54 of its 63 cities and provinces since the fourth Covid-19 wave broke out in the nation on April 27. Sunday alone has seen 876 new local Covid-19 cases.

HCMC now takes the lead with 6,034 cases, followed by Bac Giang with 5,661 cases.
