Worked started Thursday on a traffic circle project to reduce congestion in the border area between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province.

With a price tag of more than VND3.4 trillion (US$144 million), the project to upgrade An Phu Intersection in Thu Duc City will build two overpasses and a tunnel linking the HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Boulevard in Thu Duc.

The expressway connects HCMC with the industrial hub of Dong Nai and is also the main route to travel from the city to Ba Ria – Vung Tau, which is home to major southern port complexes and Vung Tau beach town.

The project will also include the construction of two other overpasses near the intersection.

The project is expected to be finished by April, 2025.

HCMC Deputy Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong said the project to upgrade An Phu Intersection is of great importance as there are high hopes it will help to ease the chronic traffic jams that the city’s eastern gateway has suffered for years.

The project will be built using the city budget in combination with the central budget.
