Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge connecting Thu Duc City and District 12 across the Saigon River is under repair after its girder was hit by an unidentified vessel.

The incident was discovered 10 days ago, but it is still not clear when it happened, Nguyen Xuan Vinh, head of the management center of road traffic infrastructure under the HCMC Department of Transport, said Thursday.

He said authorities are searching for the vessel that damaged the girder of the bridge, which is part of National Highway 1.

As the bridge is being fixed, all trucks and buses with more than 16 seats are not allowed to cross it and must use another bridge nearby.

Put into service in 2003, Binh Phuoc 1 stretches 480 meters long and 11meterswide. It did not apply any load limit before the accident.
