A woman in Hanoi was fined VND8.8 million ($382.90) for taking her hands off the handlebars while riding a motorbike to do a dance.

The unnamed 24-year-old woman was fined for doing a "fan dance" by using her hands to mimick fans while riding a motorbike, and also not having a license, police of Bac Tu Liem District said Monday.

Video footage of the woman dancing was recorded on April 5, while she and another woman were driving along Pham Van Dong Street.

The woman has since admitted to her violations, police said.

The "fan dance" is a series of hand movements that resembles dancing with a fan. It has been popularized by Vietnamese net users and become a meme on the Internet.
