Hanoi scraps new mobility requirements a day after introduction

The capital stated those who want to go out would only need to show identification papers like identity cards along with an approval document; no longer requiring things like one's work schedule, etc.

Those employed by organizations and units functioning under the government or Hanoi authorities would only need to show approval documents when going out.

Companies and businesses would need to give their employees approval documents for them to go out, while listing the names of employees who need such papers.

Amid its own Covid-19 social distancing order, expected to last until Aug. 23, Hanoi has requested people who need to leave their homes for the streets to show certain approval documents to prove they have a legitimate reason to do so.

On Sunday, the city updated its guidance on the approval documents, requiring extra documents like people's work schedules and forms provided by their employers, among others.

But the new requirements have caused gridlocks at certain Covid-19 checkpoints, creating large crowds. In response, deputy chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said Hanoi authorities would adjust mobility requirements to resolve the issue.

Hanoi has recorded 2,080 local Covid-19 cases ever since the fourth coronavirus wave hit Vietnam in late April. Several past cases were contained within quarantine zones and locked down areas.
