The flames began at around 9:30 a.m. from a karaoke parlor on the 9th floor of the OCD Plaza mall on O Cho Dua Street. The fire then spread to the rest of the floor, producing huge columns of smoke. Dozens of people could be seen running out of the building.
The OCD Plaza spans 500 m2 and has nine floors. The 9th floor houses several businesses like bars, restaurants, café, massage and karaoke parlors.
By 10:15 a.m., the fire began to spread to the 8th floor down below. Sparks flew in the air as combusted objects got flung to the ground, spreading the flames to a house nearby.
Around 10 firefighting trucks have been dispatched to the scene. Firefighters then used manlifts to hose down the 9th and 8th floor to douse the blaze.
The fire was put under control at around 10:30 a.m. No human casualty has been reported.
An investigation is ongoing to figure out the cause of the fire and evaluate property damage.
