Hanoi ranked 3rd, Ho Chi Minh City 6th safest cities in Southeast Asia

Hanoi ranked third, and Ho Chi Minh City sixth on the safety index among Southeast Asia's cities for 2025, according to a report by statistics site Numbeo.

Hanoi's safety index was 65.9 points, trailing only behind Chiang Mai in Thailand (78.2), and Singapore (77.4), while HCMC's was 48.5, according to Numbeo which claims to be the world's largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide.

Hanoi scored "very high" safety level for walking alone during daylight hours, where Ho Chi Minh City was rated as "high."

Both Vietnamese cities have "moderate" safety level when it comes to walking alone at night.

Both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, known for their modern skyscrapers and vibrant nightlife.

The Numbeo report assessed safety in 263 cities worldwide based on visitors' perceptions of safety during both day and night, as well as reports of murder, robbery, sexual and physical assault, harassment, and property crime.

Globally, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates ranked first with a safety index of 88.4, followed by Doha in Qatar and Dubai in the UAE.
