Hanoi has directed relevant departments to review and adjust planning for the Hanoi Beer Factory site to enable a proposed Beer Museum.

In a notice issued last week, the Office of the municipal People's Committee conveyed Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen's conclusions from a meeting on tourism development projects, including the Hanoi Beer Museum proposal.

Authorities will first assess land reserved for a high school at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Ngoc Ha Ward, the same address as the factory.

The Department of Education and Training will lead this review in coordination with the Departments of Planning and Architecture, Natural Resources and Environment, the Ngoc Ha Ward People's Committee, and other units.

If a replacement location for the school can be arranged, the land will be prioritized for the museum. If not, planners will draw up an option to adjust the southern road alignment to clearly separate the boundaries of the museum project and the school.

The Hanoi Beer Factory at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham covers more than 52,000 square meters and remains operational, with areas currently used for product displays.

To advance the project, the Department of Tourism will coordinate with Hanoi Beer Alcohol Beverage Corporation (Habeco) to finalize the proposal, gather feedback, and report to the city, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of this year. The Department of Finance will guide Habeco on investment procedures, while the Department of Planning and Architecture will lead recommendations on adjustments to the H1-2 sub-zone plan.

Under the H1-2 sub-zone plan approved in March 2021, the site, once the factory is relocated, is designated as mixed-use land comprising public facilities, a high school, green space, housing, and parking. In August 2023, the city placed the Hanoi Beer Factory on a list of nine facilities slated for relocation over the next five years.
