Hanoi’s first metro has been awarded a safety certificate by a French consultant and is set to begin commercial operations next month.

The certificate from the Apave-Certifier-Tricc consortium serves as a major document for government authorities to finalize inspection of the Cat Linh – Ha Dong Metro Section, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The project, first of its kind in the country, will be handed over to the State Inspection Council for final examination next week, and transferred to Hanoi authorities later.

Construction of the metro line is now complete. The line runs 13 kilometers on elevated tracks with 12 stations from downtown Dong Da District to Yen Nghia in Ha Dong District in the southwest of the city.

It is set to operate 18 hours a day with a trip frequency of 6-7 minutes. Fares start from VND7,000 ($0.30) per trip.
