A 34-year-old man in Hanoi has been detained for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy following a dispute between the boy and his son, police said on Thursday.

The incident happened on Aug. 18 at an apartment complex where Nguyen Tien Dat's son and the boy were playing together. A conflict arose, and when Dat's son later encountered his father on the way home, he said that a bruise on his face was the result of being hit by the boy.

Dat returned with his son to the scene, where the son identified his alleged attacker. Dat then reportedly grabbed the boy by the hair and repeatedly punched and kicked him in the face, causing the boy to fall and bleed. The assault took place in public, with witnesses present.

Dat only ceased the attack and left the scene with his son when security guards and passersby intervened. He surrendered to the police 10 days later and is currently under investigation for deliberate infliction of bodily harm.
