A doctor in Hanoi who was hospitalized after the glass roof of a coffee shop fell on her is entering rehabilitation following a month of treatment.

Hoang Minh Ly, who is being treated at the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, is expected to be transferred to the rehabilitation center either at the second branch of the hospital or the Bach Mai Hospital in one or two days, Tran Quang Trung from the hospital's neurosurgery department, said Wednesday.

"The main goal is to help the patient learn to sit, preventing pneumonia and infections of the urinary tract. But when it comes to leg mobility and neurological functions of the bladder, there needs to be long-term monitoring and treatment; maybe even a miracle," he added.

The doctor, 29, was sitting in a coffee shop on Thai Ha Street on April 20 when a large sheet of glass fell onto her from the second floor.

She fell into a coma, and injuries to her spine paralyzed her legs and caused her to lose control of her bladder and bowels.

Following numerous treatments, her condition began to improve on May 17.

A representative of the K Hospital, a leading cancer facility in Hanoi, where Ly works, said the hospital would arrange appropriate jobs for her after she is discharged.
