A French expert was confirmed as Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 patient Monday evening, taking the country's active cases count to 37.

The 57-year-old "Patient 1097" landed September 19 at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on Emirates flight EK394 from Dubai.

Quarantined on entry, she tested positive for the novel coronavirus Monday and is being treated at Hanoi’s National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Two male Taiwanese experts aged 33 and 58 being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases have recovered, the Health Ministry announced Monday.

Vietnam has recorded 1,097 Covid-19 cases so far, with 35 deaths. Many of the fatalities have been of elderly patients with underlying conditions like diabetes or kidney failure.

Of the 37 active cases, 10 have tested negative for the virus at least once. Nationwide, 16,000 are in quarantine.

No community transmission of the novel coronavirus has been recorded nationally for over a month.
