The 2019 capture of a young Jrai boy hiding from the sun in a pile of old nets in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has earned Nguyen Linh Vinh Quoc the possibility of winning the award.

Nguyen Duy Sinh is shortlisted thanks to a 2021 photograph of the small home of an elderly Vietnamese couple living in the middle of a heart-shaped swamp in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The other Vietnamese photographer in the fray is Pham Duc Huy with his 2019 shot of a fisherman rowing his boat on Tuyen Lam Lake near Da Lat on a foggy morning.

The voting is open on the contest's Instagram page until December 1. The image with the most likes will win this year’s People’s Choice category, and the winner will be featured in The Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibition.
As part of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) taking place in the U.K. from October 31 to November 2, the awards aim to showcase the most inspiring environmental photographs from around the world, highlighting the need for sustainable climate actions.
