A foreign couple was filmed driving a motorbike at high speed on an expressway near HCMC meant only for four-wheel vehicles.

A woman named Kieu Lien shared on social media the video she took of the couple, whose nationalities are not known, driving at 100 kilometers per hour in the emergency lane of the Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway Sunday afternoon.

The expressway connects HCMC with the neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Lien told VnExpress: "I was shocked to see the foreigners speeding on the expressway. It was extremely dangerous."

Motorbikes caught using the expressway face a fine of VND500,000-1 million ($22-43).

Road crashes are a leading cause of death in Vietnam, killing almost one person every hour. More than 18,720 accidents occurred last year, killing 8,244 people and injuring nearly 14,800, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
