A large fire broke out near the lobby of the Binh Phuoc People's Committee headquarters in southern Vietnam around noon on Monday.
The fire started at approximately 11:30 a.m. in a corner of the lobby and quickly spread, producing thick smoke that engulfed the area.

Firefighting teams promptly dispatched multiple firetrucks to extinguish the flames.

Local authorities temporarily closed the road leading to the headquarters to facilitate the firefighting efforts.

According to Ton Ngoc Hanh, Binh Phuoc Provincial Party Secretary, the fire was contained within about 15 minutes.

The affected room, located in the lobby, is typically used for hosting international guests and can accommodate up to 40 people. It had recently been redecorated with new carpeting.

Hanh stated that the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit related to the carpet installation.

At the time of the incident, a few officials were upstairs but were evacuated promptly.

"The fire caused significant smoke, but firefighters quickly extinguished it. After inspecting the area, we confirmed that everyone was safe. The room sustained only smoke damage," Hanh said.
