Fire breaks out at high-end Rivergate Residence apartment complex in Ho Chi Minh City

A fire broke out at the Rivergate Residence apartment complex near Ho Chi Minh City center on Monday afternoon, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.

The blaze reportedly started around 4:30 p.m. on the 27th floor of Block A along Ben Van Don Street, around 1.5 km from Ben Thanh Market.

Witnesses said smoke and flames poured from the apartment’s windows and balcony as alarms rang throughout the building. Residents rushed down stairwells to safety while firefighters worked to contain the flames.

Six fire engines and more than 50 firefighters were dispatched from a nearby station.

Rivergate Residence, developed by Novaland, is a high-end complex at 151–155 Ben Van Don, featuring two towers of 27 and 33 floors with apartments, officetels, and shophouses.

Block A has around 200 apartments housing over 400 residents.

A building management representative said the fire was brought under control by 5 p.m., and staff are coordinating evacuations and inspecting units to ensure safety.

Authorities have not reported any casualties, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
