A 44-year-old woman in southern Binh Duong Province died after floodwaters swept away her pick-up truck on Friday.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. as Nguyen Thi Bao Tran was driving along Suoi Siep Street towards National Highway 1K. Heavy rain caused floodwaters from the upstream Siep Stream to surge into the area, sweeping both Tran and her vehicle away.

Police forces located Tran's body and her vehicle about an hour later. They were found in the stream, approximately 50 meters from where they had been swept away.

Dao Minh Luan, chairman of Tan Dong Hiep Ward of Di An City, said the floodwaters rose to the level of the vehicle's door, pushing it off the road. Tran is believed to have attempted to escape the vehicle but was unsuccessful.

"The water was neck-deep for an adult, making it impossible for passersby to intervene," Luan said.

A witness described the water level as over a meter deep, with a powerful current. Some bystanders had warned Tran not to proceed through the flooded area, but she did not heed their advice.

"The vehicle was carried about 50 meters downstream. The driver attempted to escape, but ultimately, they sank," the witness said.

Previouly, heavy downpours had inundated multiple areas in Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces, both bordering Ho Chi Minh City.

In Di An City, rising water levels in the Siep Stream flooded National Highway 1K and nearby roads, immobilizing several vehicles.
