A crocodile showed up at a family’s garden in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, forcing locals to band together to capture it.

People in a neighborhood in the city's outlying District 12 found a crocodile crawling into a household’s garden. They tried to use sticks to prevent it from attacking, before capturing it and informing authorities about what happened.

Locals suspected that the crocodile escaped from a cage and followed a stream to get to the area, which is located near the Vam Thua River.

Vo Thi Ngoc Lan, chairwoman of the An Phu Dong Ward People’s Committee, said there are no facilities in the ward which raise crocodiles. Personnel have been dispatched to patrol along streams and canals, and HCMC rangers have been called to deal with the matter.

In 2022, a crocodile 80 cm long and weighing 3 kg also appeared in District 6, and was captured by rangers and sent to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
