According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center, this is set to be the strongest cold spell affecting southern Vietnam and HCMC since the start of the winter monsoon season, which typically lasts from November to February. The cold air is predicted to penetrate deeper into the region by Wednesday.
From Wednesday through Sunday, temperatures in HCMC are forecast to drop, with lows of 23-24 degrees and highs of 31-32 degrees. This will provide a noticeable relief from the recent highs of up to 34 degrees.
American weather service AccuWeather has forecast the week's lowest temperatures for HCMC at 24-26 degrees.
Vietnam's National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that the cold wave is lowering average temperatures in northern regions, including Hanoi, to 24-26 degrees during the day, with the effects expected to persist from Monday to Wednesday.
