According to the proposal submitted by a consortium consisting of Thu Duc Marine and Scene Plus companies, the cinematic park would stretch along an 800-m section of the riverbank, running from the Thu Thiem Tunnel to a nearby overpass.
The park is planned to include seven distinct areas, featuring film studios, film exhibition spaces, theme parks and movie theaters. The initial phase, spanning two to three years, would involve the development of infrastructure, primary film studios, film museums and cruise exhibition centers. Following this, entertainment zones would be constructed, alongside expanded spaces for hosting film events and related services.
An attraction of the project would be an open film studio designed to recreate scenes from 20th-century HCMC, providing authentic sets for filming and attracting visitors interested in the city's historical heritage.
Nguyen Tran Huu Thang, CEO of Thu Duc Marine Company and president of the Waterway Travel Association, emphasized the strategic location of the proposed park, highlighting easy accessibility through both road and waterway routes into downtown HCMC.
Currently, HCMC has approximately 400 parks covering about 500 ha, far short of its goal of 11,400 ha dedicated to green spaces. The city, with a population nearing 10 million residents, provides only 0.55 sq.m of greenery per person, significantly below the planned standard of 7 sq.m per capita.
