A Vietnamese woman living in Bangkok described scenes of panic as residents rushed into the streets, some without time to dress, after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar sent strong tremors across neighboring countries on Friday.

The quake struck central Myanmar at approximately 12:50 p.m. (1:20 p.m. Bangkok time), with its epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers.

In Bangkok, 1,000 km from the epicenter, tremors were felt across the city, particularly in high-rise buildings, prompting widespread evacuations.

Si, a Vietnamese resident living on the 35th floor of a building, said it took her family several minutes to react after they first felt the shaking.

"The building was shaking violently, and we noticed cracks in the walls," she recalled. "I panicked and did not manage to grab my passport or any personal documents, only my phone."

"Once we got to the street, I saw many others had evacuated as well. Some people didn't even have time to put on proper clothes or shoes," she added.

Ten people have been confirmed dead due to the earthquake in Bangkok, most in the collapse of a skuscraper under construction.

In Myanmar, over 1,000 people have been killed and several cities face large-scale destruction.
