A student robotics team from Vietnam has made global headlines by clinching the runner-up title at the 2025 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) World Championship in Houston, Texas, the world's largest robotics competition.

GreenAms Robotics Team 24751, representing Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, achieved the historic feat in their first-ever appearance at the international event. The 15-member squad not only finished second overall but also clinched the top prize in the Edison Division, known as one of the toughest brackets in the competition.

The 2025 FTC World Championship brought together 256 elite teams from 52 countries, selected from more than 800,000 participants worldwide. The Vietnamese team stood out for their strategic gameplay, technical excellence and teamwork, according to their mentor Nguyen Thanh Tung.

"This result reflects the students’ discipline, creativity, and coordination under pressure," Tung said.

Beyond the competition, the students had the opportunity to explore NASA’s facilities, reconnect with school alumni in the U.S., and visit the Vietnamese Consulate General in Houston.

Principal Tran Thuy Duong hailed the team’s success as a milestone for Vietnam’s STEM education, calling it the result of years of investment in nurturing scientific talent.

"This victory showcases Vietnam’s potential on the world stage," she said.
