Vietnam high school chairman removed after intimate videos with women at school office go viral

Nguyen Van Thuan, deputy director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, on Nov. 11 confirmed the decision, saying it was aimed at stabilizing the situation and protecting the school’s reputation.

Vu Van Ky, chairman of Hai Hau Commune People’s Committee, said authorities have instructed the school to calm teachers and students and ensure normal teaching continues.

The videos, which went viral on social media over the weekend, show a man engaging in intimate behavior with multiple women inside an office. Many viewers expressed anger, calling the footage "offensive" and "damaging to the image of educators."

According to Thuan, the man in the video was later identified as the chairman of the school council. The incidents reportedly occurred in 2024 and early this year. His office is located within the school grounds but is managed by the board of directors, not the school administration.

Under a governmental decree, a healthy educational environment must be free from social evils and violence, and all staff and students should "live healthily and behave culturally."

The Ninh Binh education department has asked police to investigate those spreading false claims that the man in the video was a teacher or principal.

"This is incorrect information that seriously harms the reputation of the teaching profession," Thuan said.

Regarding the circulation of the video, lawyer Nguyen Hong Quan from the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association said citizens are legally protected regarding personal information and privacy. Any act of sharing such material without consent could lead to administrative fines or even criminal charges.

"In this case, the person who distributed the video will likely face criminal charges due to the serious nature and widespread impact," Quan noted.

To Hien Thanh High School, a private institution with about 900 students, has been led by a council chairman who also took part in teacher recruitment and student admissions activities, according to posts on its official Facebook page.

According to regulations by the education ministry, the council of a private high school serves as its governing body, representing investors and stakeholders with authority over strategic planning, staffing and administrative appointments.
