Police in the central Thanh Hoa Province have seized deadly weapons and drugs after carrying out checks of 167,000 students, including in middle schools.

More than 3,000 police officers were dispatched to 631 educational facilities after repeated instances of students fighting with each other and consuming stimulants, which have caused public distress.

They also went to 770 coffee shops and restaurants near schools where students usually hang out.

They seized an astonishing collection of weapons including 150 scissors and knives, 27 iron rods and sticks, pepper sprays, guns and plastic bullets, homemade electric batons, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, and hacksaws.

They also found more than 100 devices used to consume stimulants that were similar to e-cigarettes.

Some students were found with cannabis, police announced Monday.

Almost 400 had motorbikes of 50 cc capacity though they have yet to turn 18.

On March 18 a ninth grader stabbed his classmate twice with a knife in a school in Trieu Son District following a previous fight.

The victim suffered critical injuries but luckily survived.

The next day students from two high schools in Dong Son District chased each other on motorbikes, and one sustained injuries.

On April 28 two 11th graders fought each other in a school in Dong Son District, and one of them wielded a knife that caused the other to almost lose an ear and several fingers.
