Director of the Education Department Somchai Morakotsriwan told the Bangkok Post the department has been conducting an inspection on foreign workers following reports about foreigners working without permits in language schools in Ratchada and Bang Na areas.
The department, accompanied by the Immigration Bureau, visited language schools on Sunday to review teachers' work permits but did not find any unauthorized workers.
The inspections follow a police raid last Thursday on two language schools located on Ratchadaphisek Street, where eight South Korean nationals were arrested for reportedly teaching without proper documentation.
Under Thai law, foreigners who intend to teach must enter the country on a non-immigrant visa and provide teaching credentials along with other required documents. Individuals found working without valid permits face fines of up to 50,000 baht ($,465) and could be deported, the Malay Mail reported.
