Education New Zealand (ENZ) announced the initiative on Monday, marking the first-ever government-backed scholarship program at the university level for students from Vietnam. The scholarships aim to enhance bilateral cooperation in education, said Ben Burrowes, acting general manager of ENZ.
The 14 scholarships will be available to students who enroll at one of eight universities in New Zealand: the University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology, Massey University, the University of Waikato, Victoria University of Wellington, the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University and the University of Otago.
All of these institutions are ranked among the top 2% globally, according to the QS World University Rankings for 2025.
Applications for the scholarships will open in May 2025, with successful candidates expected to begin their studies in February 2026.
