Kindergarteners and students up to high school levels in Ho Chi Minh City may have their tuition fully waived starting the next school year, the municipal education department proposed.

In a draft on tuition support policies for students starting from the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training said tuition waivers would be a meaningful gift for students throughout the entire city, showing the city’s investment into education.

If passed, the policy would allow tuition exemption for all students up to high school levels, including both public and private ones, except for those at schools with foreign capitals.

About VND653 billion ($25.7 million) from the public budget would be used to waive tuitions for the 2025-2026 school year, the department said.

Seven cities and provinces in Vietnam currently waive tuitions for students: Quang Nam, Yen Bai, Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
