BUV highlights resilience, aspiration, innovation and caring as key attributes for young individuals in the 4.0 era, supporting their personal and professional growth.

Alongside the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the term "VUCA"—an acronym for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity—has become increasingly relevant to the younger generation. This concept reflects the dynamic and unpredictable environment people face today. In such a world, education must go beyond imparting conventional knowledge and skills to equip young people with the mindset and resilience needed to navigate and overcome challenges.

Recognizing this, British University Vietnam (BUV) has positioned itself as the "Home of the Lionhearted," with a mission to nurture students who can thrive in any era. This tagline reflects BUV's long-standing educational philosophy, focusing on fostering resilience, adaptability, and personal and professional growth.

Developing resilience through hands-on learning

BUV integrates this philosophy into its curriculum, extracurricular activities, and social programs. Students are encouraged to engage in real-world experiences that help build their confidence and adaptability.

"Participating in internships in real working environments, I faced the pressure of deadlines, had to communicate with more experienced professionals, and learned to manage unexpected situations. These experiences helped me recognize my resilience and composure when facing challenges," said Dang Thi Khanh Linh, a Marketing Management student and BUV Student Ambassador known for her enthusiasm for volunteer work.

Khuat Quang Huy, a BUV student who received a Summer School and Research Scholarship at the University of Sussex (U.K.), shared a similar experience: "In less than a year, BUV has opened many opportunities for me. It gave me the chance to visit the U.K. for the first time, live independently for two months, step out of my comfort zone, and find the direction and goals that suit me best."

His mother, Do Thi Huyen Anh, expressed her pride in his growth: "Seeing him become more confident in exploring his skills through clubs and school activities is a great source of pride. I know that BUV has inspired him to strive and confidently shape his future."

Leadership and problem-solving in action

BUV's practical learning environment encourages students to develop leadership and problem-solving skills. Cong Ngoc Long, an International Business Management student, Head of Human Resources for the BUV Fashion Club, and Vice President of the Wildcat Cheerleading Club, reflected on a challenging moment during an event:

"A major event for the Fashion Club faced a last-minute issue. If we couldn't find a solution, all the team's efforts would have gone to waste. I managed to stay calm, assess the situation quickly, and find a solution. This experience taught me that adaptability and the ability to handle pressure are key to success. It also strengthened my belief in my leadership abilities."

Long believes that the skills and mindset cultivated at BUV will support him in pursuing his aspirations: "The professional skills, growth mindset, and resilience I've developed here will serve as a strong foundation for my future."

Fostering personal growth and confidence

Ngo Thi Ngoc Linh, an International Business Management student and BUV Student Ambassador, found her confidence through participating in the student council: "The positive environment at BUV has helped me grow into a more confident person."

Her mother, Mac Thi Dao, who works in education, noted: "Since studying at BUV, I've seen a significant change in my daughter. She used to be shy about speaking in groups, but now she confidently shares her views and presents in front of new audiences."

These transformations are not just experienced by the students but are also evident to their families, who witness their growth in confidence, resilience, and independence.

The development of BUV students is supported by a dedicated faculty that fosters both academic excellence and personal growth. Assoc. Professor Anchit Bijalwan from School of Computing & Innovative Technologies, encourages students to engage in research and interdisciplinary activities: "These experiences help build confidence, problem-solving skills, and teamwork, shaping students' character."

Dr. Tingting Xie, Program Lead of Marketing Management, recalled a student who returned to BUV after a break with a renewed sense of purpose: "She became more proactive and resilient thanks to practical learning experiences. Working on a project with a non-profit organization provided her with valuable lessons, and she was pleased with her decision to return."

BUV's impact extends beyond graduation, with alumni achieving success in various fields.

Tran Bich Phuong, a postdoctoral research fellow in health economics at the University of Oxford (U.K.), and Nguyen Minh Thang, founder of the Coffilia coffee brand, are notable examples.

"Thanks to BUV's international environment, my journey has been smoother, allowing me to progress faster and further," said Thang, who aims to promote Vietnamese coffee globally through sustainable practices.
