Drug addict steals gold bracelet from 4-year-old

A man has been arrested in HCMC for allegedly stealing a gold bracelet from a four-year-old boy who was playing in his neighborhood.

A security camera has captured a man on a motorbike approaching a group of children playing in front of a house in Tan Phu District around 10 a.m. last Sunday, stopping, checking around, grabbing a boy, and snatching his bracelet before quickly driving away.

The entire incident takes just around 20 seconds.

Police investigated and identified the man as Tran Hong Phat, 29, a native from Mekong Delta's Can Tho City.

On Monday night they found him driving along a street in Binh Tan District and took him in.

He confessed to stealing the bracelet since he was a drug addict and direly needed money, the police said.

He also told them he had stolen a smartphone from a seven-year-old girl in Tan Phu District two weeks earlier.

He was wearing a Gojek coat and a Grab helmet, but police found it was just a disguise, that he does not work for the firms and is currently jobless.
