The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Thursday when a 26-year-old man and a woman rode a motorbike onto Nguyen Hue Street and entered the park with an unmuzzled, unchained dog. They allowed the dog to roam freely.
A security guard approached the couple and informed them that bringing dogs into the park violates regulations. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation when the man grabbed a metal stick from the guard’s hands and used it to strike him repeatedly in the head. The guard suffered heavy bleeding and was later taken to hospital.
Police from Ben Nghe Ward responded to the scene, and both the man and the woman were taken into custody.
Nguyen Hue Walking Street, a popular destination for locals and tourists, stretches over 670 m from the HCMC People’s Committee to Bach Dang Park, crossing several streets, including Le Loi, Ton That Dam, Ngo Duc Ke, and Hai Trieu. Signs are displayed throughout the area to inform visitors that pets are not allowed in the park.
