The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 11 at Midnight Noodle Club along Tessensohn Road. The woman said she was finishing her meal when she noticed something moving quickly on the floor. Moments later, she saw a rat climbing onto the sauce table, its tail dipping into the sambal chilli, Mothership reported.
"I was shocked and disgusted by the sight, as this poses a clear public health risk," she said. She added that staff at the counter initially smiled when told about the rat but took no immediate action. The group waited for 10 minutes before leaving.
In response, a representative for Midnight Noodle Club said the eatery has been "temporarily closed as a precaution".
"We take these feedback and incidents seriously and have taken immediate actions to investigate further on the cause of the matter," the representative said.
They added that the restaurant is working with its landlord and a pest control contractor "to carry out necessary actions" and has disposed of all possibly affected items.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) confirmed it is investigating the case.
"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices," the agency said, reminding food operators to maintain clean premises and adhere to hygiene standards.
