Hanoi authorities uncovered multiple food safety violations, including decomposing rats, during an inspection of a snack production company on Tuesday.

Inspectors found snack packages scattered on the ground and workers handling products with bare hands at Duc Vinh Food and Trading Company in Hoai Duc District. The facility lacked separate production areas, and decomposing rats were discovered on-site, raising concerns about hygiene standards.

The company was unable to provide documentation verifying the origins of its materials and ingredients. Additionally, seven workers had expired health certificates, and none were equipped with protective gear, officials reported.

Authorities have temporarily suspended the facility's operations to address the violations. Samples of frying oil used in the snack production process were collected for testing.

This incident follows another case of food safety breaches in the capital. The Nguyen Ninh traditional green sticky rice cake facility on Hang Than Street was recently fined VND40 million ($1,575) after inspectors found the production area sat next to the washroom, among other violations.
